Natural Deer Urine Attractants Illegal in Virginia

Virginia Dept of Game & Inland FisheriesEffective July 1, 2015, it will be illegal to possess or use deer scents/lures that contain natural deer urine or other bodily fluids while taking, attempting to take, attracting, or scouting wildlife in Virginia.

Chronic wasting disease (CWD) poses a significant risk to the long-term health and stability of the Virginia white-deer populations. Since it was first found east of the Mississippi in Wisconsin in 2002, CWD has been found in a total of eight eastern states, including Virginia.  To date, the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (VDGIF) has spent over one million dollars on CWD monitoring and management efforts.  Importation bans on whole carcass and certain carcass parts (i.e., brain and spinal cord) from high-risk CWD areas (including areas or states infected with CWD or any North American enclosure intended to confine deer) are already in place in Virginia, along with a ban on interstate movement of captive deer and elk.   Reducing the use of natural deer urine attractants by prohibiting the possession or use while afield for the purposes of taking or attempting to take, attracting, or scouting will further minimize the risk of introducing CWD into a new area of Virginia. Big Game Access Program cancelled after pilot study

Colorado Parks and WildlifeCOLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – After a pilot study, Colorado Parks and Wildlife will be suspending its Big Game Access Program (BGAP). BGAP was designed to evaluate the potential of a big game leasing program in southeastern Colorado and create hunting opportunities that both benefited landowners and hunters in the area. However, recent budgetary shortfalls have caused Colorado Parks and Wildlife to reevaluate all of its programs and as a result the decision was made to end BGAP. [Read more…]

Chasing Alaska

Dan-Weller-Goat-Hunt-18Anyone passionate about hunting really should experience a wilderness hunt once in their life.  I mean wilderness as in: fly/float/ride horses in and spike camp from there.  You’re on your own for bad or worse and you left any sign of civilization a hundred miles ago.  Everything in the outside world is forgotten and the feeling of solitude is so real that sometimes you feel you are the last person left on the planet.  This is what makes hunting real for me and has turned it into a serious addiction and also is a key element of this story. Trophy Whitetail Rut Hunt

Trophy Whitetail Rut HuntHUNT THE RUT FOR TROPHY WHITETAILS! This is a 2012 November Rifle Hunt! The property that you will be hunting is 15,000 acres. It is all deeded private property in Alberta near the city of Wainwright. The trophy pic speak for themselves. Their average whitetail bucks are 155 to 165 inches and they kill bucks every year that are as big as 180+. Last year they killed two in the 180’s, 4 in the 170’s and the rest were in the 155 to 165 range. They also offer the entire property and lodge to groups of 4 hunters that come together. This is a very good opportunity to hunt above average deer that you really can’t find anywhere else. They have openings that will not last long, so if this is something that you want to do we suggest you book it as soon as you can. [Read more…]
