Mule Deer Antlerless Quotas Likely Lower

 

 

Mule deer hunters in much of north central Montana will likely find fewer antlerless licenses available this year.

That’s because wildlife biologists are finding lower mule deer numbers in Fish, Wildlife and Parks’ Region 4.

“We’ve had good numbers for the last 10 years,” says Graham Taylor, FWP regional wildlife manager. “This is our first dip.”

Most hunting districts in FWP Region 4 have an annual quota of “B” licenses that are good for antlerless mule deer. Those licenses are available through a lottery process with June 1 the deadline to apply.

Although the quotas have not been set yet, Taylor anticipates lower quotas this year than in the past based on winter and spring surveys.
