Virginia’s Duncan New Chair of NBCI Management Board

National Bobwhite Conservation Initiative

Bob Duncan, executive director of the Virginia Department of Game & Inland Fisheries, is the new chairman of the National Bobwhite Conservation Initiative’s Management Board.

Duncan replaces Dr. Jon Gassett, commissioner of the Kentucky Department of Fish & Wildlife Resources, who recently resigned to accept a position with the Wildlife Management Institute. The NBCI board is comprised of the commissioner/director of each of the 25 state wildlife agencies in the NBCI region, or their designees. Meeting twice a year, their role is to provide high-level policy guidance to the national effort to restore wild bobwhites. [Read more…]

Hunters Reminded of Rules on Importing Deer, Elk

Vermont Fish & WildlifeHunters traveling outside Vermont to hunt deer or elk need to keep in mind that the regulation designed to protect Vermont’s wild deer from chronic wasting disease remains in effect, according to a reminder from the Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department.

Chronic wasting disease (CWD) is a fatal disease of the brain and nervous system in deer and elk. Abnormal prion proteins produce lesions in the brain that cause disorientation and emaciation in conjunction with other abnormal behaviors. MT FWP To Host Bison Discussion In Lewistown

BisonMontana Fish, Wildlife & Parks will host a two-day discussion in Lewistown on public issues related to efforts to create a long-term bison conservation and management plan for Montana.

Conservation and Outdoor Recreation Groups Unite in Urging Congressional Appropriators to Save Funding that Protects Fish, Wildlife and Their Habitats

Teaming With WildlifeWASHINGTON – More than 1,600 organizations representing tens of millions of birders, hikers, hunters, anglers, boaters and other conservationists and outdoor enthusiasts delivered a collective letter to congressional appropriators Wednesday urging them to restore funding to popular and effective fish and wildlife conservation grant programs. The letter is in response to efforts in the U.S. House of Representatives to zero out funding for the State and Tribal Wildlife Grants Program, North American Wetlands Conservation Fund, Neotropical Migratory Bird Conservation Fund, Forest Legacy Program and the Land and Water Conservation Fund next fiscal year. I have been using the GORE OPTIFADE Concealment patterns for a few years now. By now most of you have seen or at least have heard of Ortifade. There are 3 GORE OPTIFADE Concealment patters as you read this. There is the OPTIFADE Open Country, OPTIFADE Forest and OPTIFADE Marsh which will be released in or around June.
