Udderly ridiculous proposals


I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream. But if the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has its way, it’s none for me, thanks.

PETA officials sent a letter to Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, the creators of Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream, urging them to replace cow’s milk in their divine creations with human breast milk. Am I the only one out there who visibly wretched at this idea?

Now I think most people would wholeheartedly agree that breast is best. For babies, yes, not frozen confectionary treats. Even the La Leche folks were left scratching their heads at this off-the-wall suggestion. But PETA based this nutty notion on Storchen, a Swiss restaurant, whose menu includes soups, stews and sauces made with 75 percent human breast milk. With the exception of perhaps Russ Meyer, I’m betting most adults who are decades beyond the breast-feeding years would unequivocally concur that this is, well, gross.
